FAQ

Short answers - is it cheating, does it touch the game, which demos it reads, what it costs, where your demos go, and why a view says what it says.

Is this cheating?

No. Prefire reads demos: the recordings of matches that are already over, which anyone in the match room can download. It's film study, done faster. It never runs during your match or shows you anything live.

Does it touch Counter-Strike 2?

No. It doesn't attach to the game, read its memory, draw over it or ask you to launch it any differently. It's a separate program, or a browser tab, that reads files.

Which demos does it read?

Any CS2 match demo, a .dem file. FACEIT's are the ones Prefire can find for you from your match room, and the ones the extension sends from the Watch demo button.

What does it cost?

There's a 7-day trial, free and once per account, handed out by invitation for now. Solo and Team prices aren't announced yet. Plans has the details.

Where do my demos go?

With the Windows app, a demo stays on your PC: it's read there, and the demos Prefire downloads for you are kept in %LOCALAPPDATA%\Prefire\demos. With the web app, Prefire's server reads the demo once, deletes it straight away and keeps only the results, for up to 90 days after the demo was last opened.

Will it slow my game down?

In the tray it draws nothing. Benchmarks says how we measure that and how you can check it in Task Manager on your own PC.

Why is a flash with more blind seconds ranked lower?

Top flashes ranks a lineup by what it earned per throw, not in total. A lineup thrown six times can add up to more blind seconds than one thrown once and still be the weaker flash. The five views explained has the whole rule.

What does "Forced 3 of 4 times his team was short" mean?

In four rounds, the player's team averaged under $3,500 at buy time, not counting pistol rounds, and in three of them he spent big anyway. Force buys says exactly what counts.

Can I copy where a grenade was thrown from?

Yes. On Top HEs and Top flashes, point at the ring where the player let go and copy the setpos line. Paste it into the console on an empty server and you stand where they stood, looking where they looked.

Is there a Mac or Linux app?

No, the desktop app is for Windows. The web app works in any modern browser on any computer.
