Browser extension

What the Prefire extension does, how to set it up, where a demo from FACEIT's Watch demo button goes, and what each message in the match room means.

The extension catches the demo when you click Watch demo in a FACEIT match room and hands it to Prefire, so you don't have to find the file and open it yourself. It runs in Chrome, Edge and Brave.

What it does

  • When a Counter-Strike demo starts downloading from FACEIT, it takes the link FACEIT just made and gives it to Prefire. FACEIT's links last about five minutes, which is why the extension catches it the moment you click. Every other download is left alone.
  • In your match rooms, it tells the Windows app which room you're in, so the app can say Match found and suggest who to study. You can turn this off in the extension's popup.
  • It reads nothing else from the page.

Set it up

The extension comes with the Windows app.

  1. In the Windows app's sidebar, under Browser, click Set up the browser extension. A folder opens.
  2. In Chrome, Edge or Brave, open the extensions page (chrome://extensions, edge://extensions or brave://extensions) and turn on Developer mode.
  3. Click Load unpacked and pick the folder that just opened.

Where a demo goes

When you click Watch demo, the extension tries these in order:

  1. The Windows app, if it's running on your PC. The app downloads the demo and opens it on your player, and the browser's own download is cancelled.
  2. The web app, if the Windows app didn't take it and you're signed in at prefireapp.com/web. Prefire's server fetches the demo, and its study opens in a new tab.
  3. Your Downloads folder, as if the extension weren't there, when neither could take it.

The extension picks up your web sign-in on its own when you visit prefireapp.com/web signed in. Its popup says Signed in for the web study, and has Sign out of the extension.
